SCHEDULE
THINKFEST MEETINGATTENTION History buffs, Artisans, Artists, Actors, Planners, Painters, Movers, Shakers, and Candlestick Makers: You are cordially invited to a thinkfest meeting to explore ideas for a "LIVING HISTORY/ REPLICA VILLAGE SCENES" exhibition that could be produced for the Scarborough 350th Anniversary Celebration in 2008. A presentation by Tom Sesto, with assistance from Rodney Laughton, and a discussion of ideas for living history demonstrations and village scene replicas that could be organized for the 350th celebration is planned for Tuesday January 24th, 2006 at 6:00 PM. Anyone interested in participating in the planning of such an event is encouraged to attend. The meeting will take place in the conference room at Scarborough Downs. Tom has listed a plethora of ideas in the theme of demonstrating the daily activities that early residents would have had to do. For example: spinning wool, dipping candles, making glass for windows, preparing typical foods, blacksmithing and more. It is fascinating listening to his enthusiasm and I'm sure we'll have an interesting and productive session! If you can attend, or for more information, please let me know. RSVP Rick Murphy Did you know. . . Scarborough’s first European settler was John Stratton, who came to the islands adjacent to Prout’s Neck prior to 1630. He carried on a profitable business, trading with the Native Americans and fishing vessels. Little is known of this trader except his record for honest dealings with the locals. His two islands and the mainland were called Stratton’s Plantation.
