Animal Control Ordinance
Piping Plovers
The Piping Plover is an endangered marine bird protected by both State and Federal laws. They are small sandy-colored shorebirds that nest on beaches. Some of the most successful breeding of these birds occurs in Scarborough. If you are interested in assisting in the monitoring of these birds, please contact Bill Reichl at Community Services.
Healthy Maine Beaches
The Town of Scarborough participates in the Healthy Maine Beaches Program. Town employees collect water samples every Tuesday to test the bacteria levels in the water. Based on the amount of bacteria in the water, the beach will be posted if the water has high levels of bacteria.

Ice Rink
Community Services has an outdoor ice rink located at 20 Municipal Drive (next to Wentworth School), which is now open for the season. There is a warming hut for residents to change, keep warm, and grab a bite to eat.
The ice rink will be open on a day-to-day basis depending on the ice conditions and weather. The ice rink will remain open as long as the cold weather persists. We thank you for respecting our signs when the ice rink is closed.
You may call 883-7645 to check the status of the ice (message will be changed daily).
