FEE SCHEDULE

Building Permit Fees (minimum fee - $35.00)

Residential: The building permit fees shall be $0.20 per square foot of "unfinished" area, and $0.40 per square foot of "finished" area. There will be no maximum fee.

Commercial: The building permit fees for all commercial buildings/structures shall be $0.20 per square foot of "unfinished" area, and $0.40 per square foot of "finished" area. There will be no maximum fee.

Finished Area - refers to a room or portion thereof which has been completed to the point where final covering of wall studs has been accomplished with paneling or sheetrock.

Unfinished Area - refers to a cellar, attic, garage, warehouse, barn, etc., in which there is no final covering of wall studs with paneling or sheetrock.

INSPECTIONS

The Town of Scarborough has 3 phases of inspections:

1. Foundations - Prior to the pouring or installation of footings, foundations, posts, piles, or sona-tubes, etc. and backfill of same (looking for footing specifications, water-proofing, drainage, etc.).

2. Rough Framing, Electrical, Plumbing - Prior to covering structural members (ready to lathe); Electrical wires of any type or plumbing of any kind shall not be covered until inspected by the Electrical or Plumbing Inspector. The above includes septic tanks and leaching fields. These can be done separately or as one inspection.

3. Final - Before occupancy.

Note: Separate permits are required for plumbing, septic tanks, and leaching fields; electrical - permanent and temporary, and mechanical installations.
