Tony
attended the
University
of
Southern Maine
and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Education and
began his career as a junior high industrial arts teacher. Concurrently,
Tony joined the Scarborough Fire Department’s Rescue Call Company in
1986. Though at the time, education was his fulltime occupation, his
EMS
interests continued to grow. In 1988, he had the opportunity to change
careers and pursue EMS full time as a field provider with the
Department.
In
1991, Tony applied and was selected for a new fulltime EMS Captain’s
position with the Department. As Scarborough Fire Department’s EMS
program continued to expand, so did the roles and responsibilities of
this position.
Today,
Tony continues to hold this expanded position with the rank of Deputy
Chief of EMS and is responsible to the Department’s
Fire Chief
. This position oversees 8 full time paramedic/firefighters, 30 +/- part
time on-duty EMTs, a 6-member call company and a junior rescue program.
Tony
maintains his
Maine
paramedic license as well as certification in ACLS, PALS and PHTLS.
Though his response to the day to day calls has lessoned from 1988, he
continues to respond to calls were another paramedic maybe needed or to
coordinate multiple patient calls.
After
the events of “911”, Tony realized his need for training in Haz-Mat
and WMD was limited. Since then, he has obtained his Haz-Mat Operations
and 40 hr Technician’s certification.
Tony is proud of his staff’s abilities and success each day in
providing excellent patient care to the community as well as his role in
helping to progress the Scarborough Fire Department’s
EMS
program over the past 12 years. |
