Deputy Chief - EMS Anthony “Tony” Attardo Jr.

Tony attended the University of Southern Maine and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Education and began his career as a junior high industrial arts teacher. Concurrently, Tony joined the Scarborough Fire Department’s Rescue Call Company in 1986. Though at the time, education was his fulltime occupation, his EMS interests continued to grow. In 1988, he had the opportunity to change careers and pursue EMS full time as a field provider with the Department.

In 1991, Tony applied and was selected for a new fulltime EMS Captain’s position with the Department. As Scarborough Fire Department’s EMS program continued to expand, so did the roles and responsibilities of this position.

Today, Tony continues to hold this expanded position with the rank of Deputy Chief of EMS and is responsible to the Department’s Fire Chief . This position oversees 8 full time paramedic/firefighters, 30 +/- part time on-duty EMTs, a 6-member call company and a junior rescue program.

Tony maintains his Maine paramedic license as well as certification in ACLS, PALS and PHTLS. Though his response to the day to day calls has lessoned from 1988, he continues to respond to calls were another paramedic maybe needed or to coordinate multiple patient calls.

After the events of “911”, Tony realized his need for training in Haz-Mat and WMD was limited. Since then, he has obtained his Haz-Mat Operations and 40 hr Technician’s certification.

Tony is proud of his staff’s abilities and success each day in providing excellent patient care to the community as well as his role in helping to progress the Scarborough Fire Department’s EMS program over the past 12 years.
