District 7 - 911 Dispatch - Fire Alarm

911 Dispatch - Fire Alarm

The Scarborough Police and Fire Departments maintain a state of the art public safety dispatch center which is the critical first link to all request for emergency assistance. Our dispatch center is located in the public safety building and is responsible for answering 911 calls, business calls to the police department, and after-hours operational emergencies for all municipal departments.

The center is also a regional E911 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for the towns of Old Orchard Beach, Buxton, and Hollis. As part of those PSAP responsibilities, our staff is trained to screen all medical calls using the Maine Emergency Medical Dispatch Protocol and provide life saving pre-arrival instructions to callers over the telephone while our apparatus is responding to the scene.

Calls for service in Scarborough are dispatched via a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to police and fire units with Mobile Data Terminals, two-way radios, and pagers. The CAD system and MDT’s allow for instantaneous access to pre-plan information, mapping, fire hydrant locations, building footprints, and special hazards.

All Scarborough Public Safety Dispatchers receive extensive training including Emergency Medical Dispatching, E911 call handling, and Certified Terminal Operators on the Maine Criminal Justice Information Network (CJIS).
