The Scarborough Fire Department has 3 Type
III Ambulances from P. L. Custom Inc. All three rescues are
equipped to the Advanced Life Support (ALS) level. All EMS
personnel are cross trained in firefighting as well as emergency medical
services.
The
Scarborough Fire Department employs 4 full time
paramedic/lieutenant shift supervisors and 12 full time
firefighter/EMTs augmented by per-diem EMTs. Each paramedic is a
Maine licensed EMT-P and are trained in Advanced Cardiac Life
Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Pre-hospital Trauma Life
Support levels as well as a wide variety of other Fire and EMS training.
Rescue
1 is housed at Oak Hill Fire Station. It is staffed with a full
time paramedic/firefighter and a firefighter/EMT 24 hour a day 7
day’s a week. Rescue 1 responded to approximately 1,500 emergency
calls per year.
Rescue
2 is housed at Dunstan Fire Station. It is staffed with a full time
paramedic/firefighter and a per-diem firefighter/EMT 24 hour a day 7
day’s a week. Rescue 2 responds to over 1,000 emergency calls each
year.
Rescue
3 is stationed at Dunstan Fire Station. It is a call company / reserve
unit. Rescue 3 is staffed by the on-duty paramedic lieutenant supervisor
and the rescue call company when both primary rescues are on other
calls. Rescue 3 is also staffed for special events and is used to
replace Rescue 1 or 2 should they need service.
